Ken Slossberg is an award winning Painter and also a Veterinarian based in Chicago IL
“I paint people and animals. As Degas said, ‘Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.’ So I paint ordinary people in ordinary settings and try to make others see the beauty in it, the extraordinary even. I paint ordinary people’s and animal's portraits and do my best to do the same for them. And, I paint the not so ordinary; those among us or who have passed, that are more than just outstanding in their field. I paint those who have made extraordinary contributions and left a mark, that have changed the world for the better and inspire me to contribute in my own small way.”
Biography
Dr. Ken Slossberg practices Veterinary Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. He studied painting at the Art Academy of San Diego and has been painting for over 20 years. In that time Dr. Slossberg has shown and won awards for his work in San Diego and Southeast Florida and Chicago.
Before becoming a Veterinarian, he received a Master of Architecture from Tulane University School of Architecture in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1984. The design, art and architectural history he studied in school, and the rich creative and cultural environment of New Orleans, nurtured his creative talents and enhanced his already keen eye for and interest in art. After 5 years as an architect, he decided to pursue a career in another area of his affection, the animal world, and the human relationship with it. In 1996 he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. “Dr. Ken”, as he prefers to be called, paints mostly from photographs he has taken in his travels and everyday life. Using both ordinary and not so ordinary, human and non-human characters, he paints in his own unique representational style to create an extra-ordinary world of unique beauty and color. Dr. Slossberg has been teaching oil painting for 10 years and continues to create out of his studio “Life Painted” in Chicago.
